Kipling's Big Idea Challenge

On Saturday, May 12th Plainsview Credit Union, along with the Kipling Entrepreneurs Group hosted the annual entrepreneurship competition known as Kipling’s Big Idea Challenge. Eight passionate entrepreneurs pitched their creative business ideas to a panel of judges. This was not only a great opportunity for the entrepreneurs to showcase their efforts but also provided them a platform to receive feedback on their ideas. The diverse set of entrepreneurial business ideas ranged from creating teas and dog treats, to an online newspaper, to a fitness facility. Additionally, the group in attendance was able to hear from last year’s winner, Monica Switzer from Tabitha’s Closet who shared her inspiring success story about her first year of business.

The eight business ideas presented were judged on many business aspects including: viability, innovation, a marketing plan, financial outlook, community focus, and enthusiasm. The three judges, Jasmine Grey from Square One, Brady Johnson the owner of Encompass Fitness in Estevan, and Leigh Dunn from Plainsview Credit Union brought a variety of perspectives and experiences to the judging table. Leigh, who was a first-time judge commented that “the overall level of application was very high and it was very tough to make a decision to pick a winner.” He also exclaimed that “in the end, the one thing that every participant showed was a passion to their idea and their community.”

After all of the entrepreneurs presented and results were submitted, the top three finishers were as follows:
1st - Bullet Proof Fitness - Matt and Melissa Gesell
2nd - Blue Chair Massage and Wellness - Tamara Woroschuk
3rd - Dr. Wendy Davis ND
Special Judge's Award - Maddy Murray

Plainsview Credit Union would like to congratulate the eight individuals that competed in Kipling’s Big Idea Challenge and commend them for having the courage to undertake entrepreneurship.
